Drugs in Bremerhaven – harbor employees arrested for cocaine trafficking

Date:

At the beginning of April, the German police seized 600 kilos of cocaine in a sea container in Bremerhaven. Nine arrest warrants have now been issued and port employees are among the suspects.

No further details were given about the nine people arrested, including what was officially in the container. The drug smugglers had tried to recruit dockers to recover and transport the cocaine, a spokesman for Bremen’s senator for justice, Claudia Schilling, said Friday. However, all attempts to get the goods out of the port failed, partly due to the efforts of the police.

At the beginning of April, 600 kilos of cocaine were found in a sea container in Bremerhaven. For some time now, the authorities have seen the drug trade shift from ports in other European countries, in particular Antwerp and Rotterdam, to Germany. This could be due to the fact that the security measures in Belgium and the Netherlands have been tightened up considerably recently. “That is why we have asked the Federal Minister of Finance, Christian Lindner, to tighten up measures, for example customs controls, in Germany as well,” it sounds.

Witnesses can report anonymouslyN
However, so far these demands have not met with success. Meanwhile, the anonymous reporting portal “Tatort Hafen” has also been introduced. For example, intimidated port employees or witnesses can report there if they have been recruited or if they have observed suspects. You do not need to identify yourself, so you can report incidents anonymously.

Last year, the main customs office in Bremen seized more than a ton of cocaine in the overseas port of Bremerhaven. The black market value is at least 100 million euros, a spokesman said in May.
