Since Friday evening, an emergency call to the Friulian rescue service has caused chaos: five Carinthians got into trouble in the Slizza gorge area near Tarvisio. A search during the night was unsuccessful and had to be abandoned – the group could not be located. Then on Saturday morning the good news: the walkers are doing well.
The Friulian rescue service was alerted on Saturday night after the group requested help at police headquarters in Thörl Maglern. The emergency services immediately searched the canyon – but without success. The walkers remained untraceable.
Walkers can no longer be reached by telephone
The caller’s telephone number was no longer available, the emergency services said on Saturday. The search finally resumed in daylight on Saturday morning.
Carinthia had fallen into a stream
Finally, the Italian police were able to get one of the hikers on the phone. He reported asking for help because a member of the group had fallen into a stream. However, the man managed to escape. Group spent the night outside, but were then able to return to their cars in daylight. The hikers are now in Carinthia, the rescuers said.
