The government of Spain will not meet in the Council of Ministers this Tuesday mechanism to limit the price of gas intended for electricity production, sources from the ministry for the ecological transition have informed Efe, who insist they are working to approve it “as soon as possible”.

Late this Monday afternoon, Brussels clarified that: the European Commission had not yet taken a “formal” decision on the Iberian proposal from Spain and Portugal, and that he was still in contact with the authorities of both countries about the design of the measure.

This appreciation came after Portugal’s Prime Minister, António Costa, announced that they had already been given the green light to set this maximum gas price ceiling, and that they were working with Spain to pass the legislation this Tuesday.

However, a spokeswoman for the Community Executive clarified that what the European Commission’s competition services had transferred to Madrid and Lisbon “preliminary analysisand that information was still pending, but that he hoped formal notification would come “soon”.

More specifically, Brussels sent the two capitals a “letter of conformity” in which the community authorities guarantee that they will give their final approval if the final regulations approved by the Council of Ministers are in line with what has been communicated, diplomatic sources added.

Although yesterday the Spanish Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, did not rule out that the measure could still pass through the Council of Ministers this week, it will eventually be postponed, just like last week.
