Even cheap goods are no longer safe from thieves in discount stores. Or it turns out that what is really needed is now being stolen. However, this differs from branch to branch.
Since the general price increase, nothing in the supermarket is safe from thieves. In the past, only expensive products such as alcohol were often equipped with anti-theft devices, but now cheap items also have to be secured.
Goods worth 1.49 euros are stolen
In the Pennymarkt in the Währinger Gentzgasse, bottles of mineral water and chocolate are labeled with vignettes that sound a loud alarm when you leave the market. Krone reader reporter Erwin Graf captured it in photos. At Penny on Äußere Mariahilfer Strasse, butter packs of 1.49 euros are also provided with the alarm sticker.
Fuses have also been removed
The Rewe Group, to which Penny belongs, explains: Each site decides for itself which goods are secured. “This ranges from batteries to chewing gum to more expensive alcoholic drinks. However, the protections are removed after a while if there is a noticeable decrease in theft,” explains the supermarket giant.
