Riots in France – The Iranian foreign ministry calls for an end to the violence

Date:

Ironically, the Iranian foreign ministry has now commented on the unrest in France. The government must “end the violent treatment of its people” and show restraint. The police must heed the protesters’ demands, a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry said on Sunday.

“The French government must end the violent treatment of its people while respecting the principles of human dignity, freedom of expression and the right of citizens to demonstrate peacefully,” said Nasser Kanani. He attributed the protests in France, among other things, to the fact that migrants were discriminated against. This would create unfavorable conditions for the population of several European countries.

Ministry spokesmen also called on the Iranian population to “avoid non-essential travel to France”.

Own protests may not be supported
However, the credibility of the words about peaceful demonstrations is questionable. In Iran, the death of young Kurdish woman Masha Amini in police custody in September has itself sparked a protest movement that is now targeting, among other things, the country’s leadership. At the time, the authorities had sharply criticized the solidarity of European countries, and the same spokesman had denounced interference by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Just Saturday, thousands of supporters of an Iranian organization in exile demonstrated in Paris against the leadership in Tehran. They spoke of a “religious dictatorship on the verge of collapse”. Democracy is needed, the demonstration in France would boost the morale of the people of Iran. According to the Paris police, about 3,500 people from different European countries took part in the demonstration.
