Wagner mercenaries agree to fight in the Russian army

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested to Wagnerians who want to defend Russia to “continue their service with arms in hand” after the uprising led by the Wagner Group on 23 and 24 June.

Viacheslav Volodinchairman of the State Duma, or lower house of Russia’s parliament, assured on Sunday that many of the Wagner Group mercenarieswhich revolted last weekend will continue to serve Russia.

The legislator points out that the uprising led by the Wagner Groupon June 23 and 24, guided by his boss, Yevgeny Prigozhinand that it was dismantled by agreement as the mercenaries approached Moscow “showed how high the prestige of the President (Putin) is in civil society and among the military,” according to Volodin.

In his opinion, “Putin came out of that extremely difficult situation with his own stronger positionsboth in the country and in the world.” If in 1917 and 1991 people like Putin had been at the helm of the state”there would have been no revolution nor would the Soviet Union have disintegrated,” the Duma leader concluded.

The Wagnerites put down their revolt after the Russian president promised to do so the suspension of the criminal proceedings against themthat Prigozhin would go to Belarus and that the mercenaries could return to their homes or formally join the armed forces.

Prigozhin’s stated goal, which he failed to achieve, was the Secretary of Defense resignedSergey Shoigu, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed ForcesValeri Gerasimov, whom he has blamed for months for the military setbacks in Ukraine and the high casualty rate among Russian forces.
