During the barbecue season, the discussion about eating meat flares up again. In Germany a slaughterhouse is closed, in Ireland 200,000 cows are killed for climate protection. It makes sense from an ecological, health and animal ethical point of view, but how much meat do we really have to miss?
More and more slaughterhouses in Germany are complaining about a lack of capacity, they even have to close – in their own words due to falling demand. The German Food Association wants to encourage citizens to radically refrain from meat, if this is legally required. Not only for health reasons – but also because of the climate damage. In Ireland there are even plans to kill up to 200,000 cows, otherwise the climate targets will not be met.
