Multiple shots provoked a large number of police officers in Sankt Veit in southern Styria on Monday evening: a 63-year-old had fired several shots into the air or at birds. The heavily drunk and aggressive man waited for the officers with a gun in his hand, but was arrested without incident.
On Monday around 7 p.m., several police patrols went to the home of a 63-year-old man from South Styria because shots had been fired there. When officers arrived, the man approached them with a gun in hand. Police said the man was behaving aggressively and was clearly intoxicated. Only after the officers had spoken to the man for a long time did he put down the weapon and was arrested.
Police found another loaded and unsecured shotgun in an unlocked garage. A search of the house also revealed that the man had a pair of scissors with him.

Due to his heavy alcohol consumption, the South Styrian could not be questioned until the next day. According to the police, he should first with an air rifle and then with a Flobert rifle in the air or on birds. He said he couldn’t remember anything. The police see a possible reason for his action in a “health restriction”.
A provisional approach and burglary ban and a provisional weapon ban have been issued against the suspect. All weapons were secured.

The Graz prosecutor’s office has ordered further investigations into the suspicion of dangerous threats, animal cruelty and attempted defiance of state authority, as well as extradition to the Graz-Jakomini prison.
