Access blocked – climate protectors block the Vorarlberg state parliament

Date:

The members of Extinction Rebellion Austria placed a sign against the warming of the climate crisis in front of the country house in Bregenz. They have been blocking access to the underground parking garage since early Wednesday morning. There are posters in the forecourt.

The protest of the climate protectors is mainly directed against the tunnel spider in Feldkirch. A traffic study by the Vienna University of Technology recently confirmed the international consensus of traffic experts that more roads cause more traffic.

Project must be completed immediately
Against this background, a fossil megaproject such as that of the tunnel spider must be stopped immediately, Extinction Rebellion writes in a broadcast. The action is intended to push the state government and state parliament to terminate the project immediately.

The understanding of the climate defenders is very limited with the speaker of the state parliament, Harald Sonderegger. “This is a form of violence that I do not support,” he said Wednesday morning when asked by “Krone”. However, he is optimistic that the state parliament session will begin promptly at 9 a.m.

“I assume that the entrance to the underground car park will have been released by then, or that those who must arrive by car will have found an alternative to park their vehicle,” said Sonderegger.

He starts the meeting as soon as the quorum is established. This is the case when more than half of all alternates are present.
