The green in the Augarten is being renewed. Due to a tender, the costs have doubled. And it can get even more expensive. The “Krone” knows the background.
The Augarten is a popular recreational area for the Viennese. It is one of the oldest urban gardens and was the first historical garden in the country to be classified as a monument.
The two bowl meadows are often used for ball games or family picnics. Events also take place regularly. According to the Federal Gardens, these factors have led to massive overuse and therefore renewal is necessary. The project “Renovation of the bowl meadow” is a project that has been planned for years. Originally, 180,000 euros had been budgeted for this. The costs have since been adjusted upwards. And up to more than half a million euros! The “Krone” asked the federal gardens how the cost explosion could happen.
