Summer is now kicking on the gas, this week 36 degrees is expected. But such temperatures not only lure people to the next outdoor pool or air-conditioned room, they can also become a major hazard. We list the biggest daily risks in the heat and also tell you what you can do about it.
Danger 1: Underestimate the heat
A big problem is that many people underestimate the heat, especially the elderly and parents should be aware of the risks of high temperatures for their children. “The problem is that many people do not take the high temperatures into account. People with high blood pressure or other pre-existing conditions are particularly at risk in the heat,” warns general practitioner and internist Günter Widhalm from Zwettl in Lower Austria, when he was recently on the road with the “Krone” to measure the temperature in the city center. You have to be especially careful with cardiovascular diseases: “In Austria, there are now more deaths due to heat than from traffic.”
