Not Puck the housefly, but Puck the police dog was the hero in Mondsee (Upper Austria) on Sunday. The four-legged helper found two men in a forest who had previously stolen several handbags. There were extra treats for that.
It was around 3am on Sunday when we were taken to a parking lot in Mondsee where a handbag had been stolen from an unlocked car. The 33-year-old victim had previously stopped pursuing the perpetrator and saw him flee into the adjacent forest area. The woman then called police at 911.
Found several bags
During the search and a short search in the forest in question, three abandoned backpacks were found that had apparently been prepared for transport. The police checked the location. Nearly two hours later, at around 4:50 a.m., two men appeared heading toward the parked backpacks. The description of the perpetrator was also correct. Since the backpacks had already been secured by the police, the perpetrators left the location in the direction of the so-called “Lacknerkreuzung” after a failed search.
Puck barked at the perpetrators
The police gave chase and the perpetrators fled to another piece of wood above the B154. The wooded area was largely surrounded and searched by several alerted neighborhood patrols. The police dog “Puck” immediately picked up the scent and was able to bark at the perpetrators lying in the thorns on the ground. During the arrest and further investigation, it turned out that they were two Moroccan asylum seekers. A rapid drug test performed on one of the two suspects came back positive for cocaine and THC. After consultation with the public prosecutor in Wels, the two suspects, aged 22 and 30, were transferred to the prison of Wels.
