After uprising – Wagner troops hand over heavy weapons to the Kremlin

Date:

According to official information, the Wagner private army of the mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin transferred large quantities of heavy weapons, military equipment and thousands of tons of ammunition to the Russian Ministry of Defense. In addition, Wagner had specified 2,500 tons of various ammunition and 20,000 firearms.

These include T-90 and T-80 tanks, multiple rocket launchers and numerous artillery systems, ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in Moscow on Wednesday. The military leadership released a video of the heavy weapons being loaded onto transport vehicles.

Equipment must be used “for its intended purpose”.
All military equipment will now be maintained and then “dedicated to their purpose,” Konashenkov said. In the offensive war against Ukraine, which had been going on for more than 16 months, the Wagner army repeatedly captured areas, including the city of Bakhmut. Last month, however, Prigozhin launched an uprising against Moscow, which he broke 200 kilometers from the capital.

Prigozhin, who had occupied Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia, put an end to the revolt after less than 24 hours on 24 June through the mediation of Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko. In return, he and his people were assured of impunity.

A few days later, Prigozhin and dozens of his Wagner commanders met with President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin has not provided information on the results. During the uprising, Putin spoke of “betrayal”.
