The waiter was drunk. According to the police, this may have been the reason for his involuntary bathing.

The man fell from a passenger ship in the Danube around 11 p.m. on Wednesday. He was able to save himself on the shore with his own strength and climb out of the water himself.

I wanted to get back on the ship
Because he wanted to board his ship again, the alerted emergency services dropped him off at the lock of the Ottensheim-Wilhering power plant on the Danube, where he could board again.
