A truck accident with an injured person in the area of the Hansson bend completely paralyzed the Wiener Tangente in a southerly direction on Thursday afternoon. Because the heavy vehicle that overturned at about 5:15 PM had also broken down the central guardrail, not all lanes could be used in a northerly direction either. The clean-up work took a long time and was not completed until just before 9 p.m.
According to the Vienna professional rescue service, the approximately 35-year-old driver received first aid at the scene. According to first impressions, he may have gotten away with bruises. To be safe, the man was flown to the hospital. Otherwise no one was injured.
The traffic jam caused by the accident and the recovery work soon reached south across the Danube, especially to the Stadlau tunnel, according to the ÖAMTC. In the opposite direction, the columns rose to Inzersdorf.
The touring club recommended a large-scale detour to the south, which was initially possible without any problems via the A4 and S1. Later, however, greater traffic density was to be expected here as well.
Cleaning up was difficult
The fire service used heavy equipment, said spokesman Jürgen Figerl. Collectors prevented hydraulic oil from seeping into the ground. An attempt was made to lift the towing vehicle so that it could be recovered with the tow trucks. However, the operation proved very difficult because the rear axle of the truck had been torn off. The transport was finally completed shortly before 9 p.m., Figerl reported.
