A violent thunderstorm with hail and strong winds hit the city of Salzburg and the Flachgau around 8 am. The result was damage to overhead lines from fallen trees.
Suddenly it became very dark and it started to rain heavily. It flashed, stormed and hailed. In Salzburg-Aigen, parts of a tree fell on a trolleybus on line 7 and damaged the slats of the articulated bus, a moment of terror for passengers. Apparently no one was injured. This caused delays on the road.
Several cycle paths had to be cleared by the city magistrate. Underpasses in Leopoldskron were full because of the sudden downpour. The professional fire brigade was called for five missions because of fallen trees and broken branches. Within minutes, 23 liters of rain per square meter fell in Salzburg.
The roundabout was flooded
The national fire brigade went on six missions. At the Walserberg border crossing on the Westautobahn, trees fell on the road towards Munich. There were short delays. The roundabout at the airport center in Wals-Siezenheim was flooded for a short time. However, the water was collected by the sewer. In Fuschl am See, the firefighters had to pump out the basement.
