On Tuesday evening, the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia was again the target of drone strikes. The flying objects would again be aimed at the east, where the Crimean Bridge is located.
Russia’s defense ministry said on Tuesday that 17 drones had been “destroyed” and 11 others rendered harmless by electronic means. It suspects Ukraine was behind the attack. There were no injuries or damage. Russian-appointed Crimea governor Sergey Aksyonov confirmed the information in the Telegram online service.
Road traffic has partially resumed
Despite the tense situation, car traffic on the Crimean Bridge has resumed on one lane. This was revealed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Chusnullin on Tuesday morning in the Telegram online service.
According to the Russian state news agency TASS, a traffic jam of at least two kilometers had formed beforehand – people had panicked trying to leave the popular holiday home. It was also reported that after vehicle traffic resumed, another line of vehicles had formed on Russian territory. The goal: to cross the bridge to Crimea.
Since the start of the Ukrainian counter-offensive in June, drone strikes in Crimea have increased. Ukraine has repeatedly stated that it wants to retake the peninsula, which has been under Moscow’s control since Russia’s internationally unrecognized annexation in 2014.
Deadly attack on Monday
The bridge over the Kerch Strait was attacked by naval drones on Monday. Ukrainian intelligence circles have claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed two civilians, according to Russian sources, AFP news agency reported. The bridge plays an important role in the transport of Russian troops to Ukraine.
New details: security services did nothing
The Bereg Association of Independent Journalists spoke to tourists who were in Crimea during Monday’s blasts, as well as residents of the Black Sea peninsula. They report that two explosions were heard, after which it became dark on part of the Crimean bridge. No one would have stopped those standing on the bridge, the security services would have done nothing. Only the drivers would have warned each other with the flashing light. Nobody understood what was going on.
Crimea was used to location
The inhabitants of Crimea say they have already got used to the dangerous situation. About the attack it says something like: “I don’t feel anything special about this, there is war.”
Life goes on. In every house there is information where you can seek protection in case of emergency. There are also trenches by the sea. That is of course also a bit scary. But at some point you come to terms with the situation.
