A man in Shangrao city, China’s Jiangxi province, woke up this weekend and realized something was wrong with his ear. He seeks out a doctor who promptly found the surprising cause – a spider that had made the ear canal its temporary home…
With the help of an otoscope, with which one can observe the external auditory canal including the eardrum, the attending physician concluded on Saturday that the spider had even spun a web in the auditory canal and was waiting for prey behind it (see video above).
The doctor was able to remove the eight-legged creeper with tweezers and send the patient home. The man reportedly suffered a minor injury to his eardrum, but thankfully his hearing was unaffected. The doctor assured the man that the injury would heal naturally in a short time.
Spider’s nest was the cause of tinnitus
A similar incident happened only in April – also in China. A 40-year-old woman had gone to the doctor because of persistent noise in her right ear. He initially suspected tinnitus, but upon closer examination found a spider in her ear.
