According to climate activist Anja Windl, “sacrifice, escalation, disruption” are the three pillars on which the resistance of the last generation is based. The activists have been using controversial methods for the climate for months. The acceptance of 100 km/h on motorways often only becomes clear after implementation, Windl explains in the krone.tv talk with Jürgen Winterleitner and refers to other countries. Further levels of escalation would also be considered if the current protest is not enough.
According to the activist, other levers of disruption are apparently also needed for the radical change that is now needed. Protests at airports cannot be ruled out. And: “You could also consider switching to fossil infrastructure.” The last generation justified their radical protest with a radical feeling: “Desperation. Desperation for the impending climate catastrophe.”
In a conversation on krone.tv, Windl already sees the protests as a success: “What you can see as a concrete success is the growth of our movement.” The protest movement of the last generation started with ten men in Austria. “At the moment there are already 200 to 250 people who have joined us.”
According to Windl, the protests are certainly fierce. There are also times when she panics about a long stay in detention. “I don’t want that. But I see the need for the protests.”
