A field fire in a field near the Bohemian Prater in Vienna-Favoriten led to a large-scale operation on Wednesday afternoon. Alarm level 2 has been activated. The fire department has been busy for hours.
69 firefighters went to the area of the so-called Löwygrube with 18 vehicles. “We were able to contain the fire to the field,” reports Christian Feiler, spokesman for Vienna’s professional fire brigade. The flames already threatened to spread to adjacent gardens with single-family homes.
About two and a half hectares of arable land burned down. The cause of the fire was unclear. However, due to the high temperatures and the lack of precipitation, the field was dry. The operation had started around 2.30 pm, the after-extinguishing work was still underway in the late afternoon.
