Dramatic minutes took place on Thursday afternoon in Tulln, Lower Austria: after a failed overtaking maneuver, a 19-year-old left the road in her BMW. The car caught fire – the young woman was just able to get to safety.
The young driver was driving L2156 at around 1:45 p.m. when she wanted to overtake a lorry. However, he was about to turn left onto a company access road, and a side impact occurred. The 19-year-old’s car was then catapulted into the ditch, overturned and caught fire.
The truck driver and other road users came to the aid of the woman because she was initially trapped in the car. After anxious minutes, she managed to get to safety on her own. Moments later, the car was ablaze. Firefighters quickly had the fire under control and L2156 was closed until 2:15 p.m. The 19-year-old was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
