It is thanks to a perfect rescue chain that Johannes E. did not drown on June 13, 2020. For the “Krone” he and his rescuers met for the first time since his swimming accident on the Old Danube in Vienna.
Like so many weekends, the amateur triathlete Johannes E. started early in the morning on June 13, 2020 for a mountain bike ride on Mount Bisam. On the way back he wanted to cool off at the Old Danube. All he can remember is that he hid his bike behind a bush and went into the water.
15 minutes between life and death
Moments later, a pedestrian may have seen him floating lifeless in the water. She alerted swimmers who pulled him out of the water and administered first aid. Others called the rescue service, six minutes later constable Marcel P. and paramedic Paul P. were on site, another four minutes later chief physician Mario Krammel. After 15 minutes of CPR, Johannes E. came back to life.
