Two pickpockets were caught red-handed in Vienna-Favoriten on Saturday morning. However, they told the police that they were only eleven years old. During an official medical examination, they determined that the perpetrators still had a few years to go. It also turned out that the two are involved in eleven other cases.
Thanks to an attentive witness, the thieves were caught on Saturday. The witness saw two young people walking suspiciously close to people on a platform of the main station in Vienna-Favoriten and suspected that they were pickpockets. The police officers of the central station police station arrested the two youths.
Medical officer revealed true age
On site, the two Bosnian nationals posed as eleven-year-old children. Because the officials did not believe the tall tale, the perpetrators were taken to the police station for a medical check-up. A company doctor then came to the conclusion that they were both clearly at least 14 years old and therefore criminally liable.
Involved in eleven other cases
It also turned out that the Viennese detectives were already investigating eleven other crimes against the suspects. The youths were arrested by order of the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office. Further investigation was entrusted to the Vienna Criminal Investigation Department.
