Lightning, rain, storm – again bad weather in the south of Burgenland

Thunderstorms and heavy rain showers occasionally fell on communities in the south of the country. In many places, memories of recent weeks were awakened when there were repeated heavy floods. In Limbach (Güssing district) the forecourt of the tennis court was flooded. The ground could no longer absorb the water from the air.

Firefighters quickly evacuated the area. Fortunately, the rain stopped relatively quickly. Damage from the storm was limited. There were therefore very few operations for the fire brigade.

Transformer fire after lightning strike
However, the comrades had to move to Rohrbunn in the Jennersdorf district. A lightning strike caused a transformer fire in the morning. There was widespread power outage in households and buildings across the city. “We are working very hard to repair the damage,” said a Burgenland-Energie employee shortly afterwards. It was about two hours later. The households and buildings in Rohrbrunn were supplied with power again.

Tree fell on the road
A tree fell in Oberdrosen on Tuesday afternoon after a storm. Because he fell on the street, the fire brigade had to remove him. Not the only one in recent days. “Due to the storms during the storms, trees fell repeatedly in the villages,” reported Martin Ernst of the district fire command Jennersdorf.

However, the fire service is not yet relaxed. After all, thunderstorms were once again announced for the night hours in the south of Burgenland.
