A 64-year-old German had an accident on Tuesday at a white water event in Gesäuse (Styria). The man was submerged and could only be rescued from the Enns dead.
On Tuesday afternoon, a 64-year-old kayaker from a German tour group had a fatal accident in Gstatterboden in the Styrian Gesäuse. In addition to the Red Cross, the fire brigade and police, mountain rescue and water rescue were also deployed. After the man was rescued from the Enns, the rescuers were only able to determine the man’s death.

About 170 people attended the whitewater event where the accident occurred. To ensure the psychological care of the other participants, the rescuers on site immediately alerted the crisis intervention team.
Crisis intervention team in action
Twelve employees of the Red Cross crisis intervention team from the districts of Liezen and Leoben and two employees of the crisis intervention team of the state of Styria took action under the leadership of the Red Cross. About 20 people who directly witnessed the accident are being cared for by the crisis intervention team at a campsite near the accident site.
The Crisis Intervention Team also provides psychological support to anyone who was close to the scene of the accident and needs post-event support.
