Terrible accident Tuesday afternoon in the Tyrolean Oberland: An 83-year-old driver from Switzerland fell over a slope in the forest during a break in Nauders (Landeck district) and was left there with serious injuries. After the man failed to return home, relatives began looking for him. After all, it was the grandson who discovered his grandfather.
The Swiss was driving on B185 Martinsbrucker Straße around 3pm on Tuesday when he stopped in an area around a hairpin bend to stretch his feet. He then marched up a path into the adjacent forest. And then it happened!
Fell from a 30 degree incline
“The 83-year-old must have suddenly lost his balance and fell several times over a 30-degree slope,” police said.
The Swiss eventually remained lying between the trees with serious injuries. Since the man did not return home as usual and could no longer be reached by telephone, relatives from Switzerland went to Tyrol to look for him.
The 83-year-old’s grandson finally discovered his grandfather’s vehicle for the first time. After stopping, he heard his grandfather’s cries for help from the woods.
Seriously injured rescued with a rope
“The grandson immediately went to his grandfather, made an emergency call and provided first aid,” the detectives continued. The seriously injured were then rescued with a rope by the emergency helicopter that had been alerted and then flown to the hospital in Zams.
