Due to the violent storms in Slovenia, the home army has sent two helicopters to provide emergency aid in the badly affected neighboring country.
A Black Hawk S-70 and an Agusta Bell transport helicopter left for Slovenia on Wednesday. In close coordination with the crisis coordination of the Slovenian armed forces, they will actively support the neighboring country, which has also been hit hard by severe storms and floods, from the air.
Places closed off from the outside world
Initially, the center of gravity of the deployed local soldiers was in the particularly hard-hit border area Dravograd – Mezica – Crna na Koroskem, where numerous towns and villages are now completely cut off from the outside world by the water masses.
After the first reconnaissance flights, which gave an overview of the prevailing situation, the red-white-red helicopters are now jointly taking off from their base at Klagenfurt airport to Slovenia to deliver urgently needed goods such as food, medicine to the detained residents and provide drinking water.
“Unfortunately, Slovenia was hit even harder than we were. The situation with our neighbors is catastrophic. The relief and rescue operations in Austria are continuing in parallel but without any problems,’ explains Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP). In total, about 200 army soldiers are currently deployed on Dutch soil in heavy weather.
