After a beaver was killed by arrows in Kierling, a cadastral district of Klosterneuburg (Tulln district), the reward for information leading to the identification of the perpetrator has been increased. After 1,000 euros a few days ago, a second private person offered another 500 euros, the state police of Lower Austria confirmed on Friday. The National Investigation Department is conducting an investigation.
The injured and later dead beaver was spotted in the Kierlingbach on the morning of July 28. In the animal’s body – head and hip – two arrows were stuck, which were believed to have been fired the day before and from a crossbow. The beaver was taken to Parndorf Animal Shelter. When the arrows were removed, a vet found further injuries which police say are “most likely also due to arrow fire”.
Wolf also killed by a aimed shot
The State Department’s investigation into the case of a wolf killed by a targeted shot in Tulln a month ago is also underway. Chief Inspector Johann Baumschlager of the National Police Directorate confirmed that it is now known from which population the wolf originates. No further information was given for tactical reasons.
