A spider that allegedly crawled out of a banana box in a supermarket in Krems (Lower Austria) appears to have run off. The animal was not sighted – according to a broadcast, the magistrate has approved the opening of the store. The branch will reopen on Friday afternoon.
To find the spider, the entire branch has been turned upside down since Tuesday. But even on Friday there is no trace of the animal. “The extensive security measures that have been taken exclude the possibility that there is still a possible spider in the industry,” said the retail group Rewe.
The actual type and origin remain unknown
Since the creeping animal cannot be found, the type and origin of the uninvited guest could not be determined. An employee saw an “unidentifiable spider” in a banana box before the store opened on Tuesday. According to the fire service, the animal was described by the employee as about ten centimeters in size and black with red. Therefore, it was assumed that it was a banana spider.
The authorities have been notified. When the fire brigade, who had also been alerted, arrived, the animal had disappeared. The store is temporarily closed for security reasons.
