Tragic accident in Southern Burgenland: Experienced motorcyclist (59) broke his neck in a heavy fall on his way home. The sadness in the family and at SV Eltendorf is great.
The accident happened on Friday evening around 8 p.m. in Zahling in the Jennersdorf district, in the hometown of Markus R.
cause unknown
The 59-year-old came off the road on his 600 machine in a slight left turn for reasons that have not yet been clarified. He drove about 40 meters into the verge on the right side of the road, hit a boundary post and steered across the meadow towards a stream bed. After jumping over this, the bike landed head-on on the opposite slope. The force of the impact threw R. nearly 20 meters through the air and came to rest in a pumpkin patch.
Moments later, four fire brigades, police, rescue services and the Christophorus 16 helicopter were on site. All help came too late, the father of two adult sons suffered a broken neck in a collision and died instantly.
Celebration for 60th birthday was already planned
Not only the dismay among the local Florianis who came to the scene – most of them knew R. – was great.
The victim belonged to the board of directors of SV Eltendorf and was very popular with the football club. Yesterday’s match against SPG Wallendorf-Mogersdorf was canceled immediately. “There is no one here who didn’t like Markus,” said chairman Jürgen Weinhofer, who first of all expressed his “condolences from the bottom of my heart” to the relatives.
R. would have celebrated his 60th birthday in October. The anticipation was great, the planning for a festival that would have to play all the pieces was well advanced.
