It should have been a normal traffic stop, but it turned into a chase. German police wanted to apprehend a 38-year-old Frenchman on Sunday evening, but he accelerated and raced to Upper Austria – pursued by several police patrols.
The Frenchman drove his VW Touran from Passau to Upper Austria around half past one in the morning. Because the driver resisted the stop signs of the German police, a kilometer-long chase began.
Several patrols with flashing lights and horns tried to stop the wild racers. At times, however, it roared down the highway at 200 km/h, repeatedly endangering uninvolved drivers.
Stopped in Schlüsslberg
It all went from the Suben border crossing on the A8 to the Wels Nord exit, on the A25 and later on the B137. In Schlüßlberg, officials were finally able to stop the 38-year-old: a patrol car parked across the road and forced the Frenchman to stop.
Due to lack of approval
The 38-year-old and his passenger (33, also French) were arrested. During interrogation, the two explained their escape by saying they had no license plate number. Ried’s public prosecutor’s office is filing a complaint against the two men. Fortunately, no one was injured and nothing was damaged during the chase.
