Russian shelling – Zelenskyj announces revenge for deceased family

Date:

Seven people were killed in Russian artillery strikes in southern Ukraine on Sunday, including a family of four including a father, mother, 12-year-old son and a 23-day-old girl. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has announced retaliation for this attack on the village of Shyroka Balka and for all other “crimes” committed by the Russian occupier.

“Every occupier killed, every burnt-out Russian vehicle, fires in their headquarters and warehouses, the extraordinarily telling ‘fog’ of the Crimean Bridge (in recent drone attacks on the bridge, Russian authorities spoke of ‘fog’ to confuse the drones, ed. .) and more – all this proves that we will not leave any crime of Russia unanswered,” he said in his evening video message on Sunday.

Images of the bombed houses in Shyroka Balka circulated on social media:

The Kherson region of southern Ukraine was shelled 17 times by Russian artillery over the course of Sunday, Zelenskyy said in his speech. In addition to the seven deaths, 15 other people are said to have been injured.

Rocket and drone attacks on Odessa
Russian missile and drone attacks on the south continued on Monday night. This time the port city of Odessa was the main target. “As a result of the enemy attack on Odessa, several fires broke out due to falling missile fragments,” Ukraine’s Black Sea governor Oleh Kiper told Telegram. “Windows of buildings were ripped out by the blast.” After Russia announced the end of the deal to ship Ukrainian grain in July, Ukraine’s Black Sea ports around Odessa have been targeted. The port facilities and the city itself have since been shelled several times.

Dense minefields as a major problem during a counteroffensive
As has been reported several times, the Ukrainian offensive is not going as well as hoped. According to Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, Russian defense lines are so densely littered with mines that there are as many as five mines per square meter in some parts of the front.

In a conversation published on Sunday with the British “Guardian”, he spoke of millions of explosives along the front. There are minefields stretching for hundreds of miles. This is a serious obstacle to the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian troops.
