It was already known on Sunday that the driver of the minivan was the father of the family. In addition, he came off the A5 by car due to fatigue.
The minibus crashed into a lowered guardrail, which catapulted it into the air. The vehicle then broke through a bridge railing and fell onto a service road. The impact threw four occupants out through the glass roof.
Three people slightly injured
A seven-month-old child and his grandparents were killed instantly. A three-year-old child died in hospital from his injuries. A child born in 2009, the 40-year-old father and 30-year-old mother were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Child was not properly restrained
The tragedy: one of the two children was not properly secured in the child seat. Otherwise, the child’s death could have been prevented. The other would be secure, but the seat had been torn from its anchorage.
Eight fatalities over the weekend
A total of eight people died in traffic throughout Austria over the weekend, the week before there were a total of twelve people in eight accidents. It concerned five car passengers, three light motorcyclists and two motorcyclists, a motorist and a cyclist. Seven deaths were recorded in Lower Austria, three in Styria and one in Burgenland and Upper Austria
