Ruble plummets – Putin lures potential buyers with “all kinds of weapons”

Date:

At a weapons exhibition near Moscow, Russia is looking for arms buyers from all over the world. President Vladimir Putin offered potential partners a “wide range of modern weapons of all types and types,” he said. The sale of war equipment should close the Russian financial gaps.

In a video address at the opening of the Armiya-2023 arms show, Putin said his country is ready for military-technical cooperation with all states that want to defend their “national interests”.

To ensure this protection, Russia supplies the latest reconnaissance systems, high-precision weapons and robotics. Putin, who has been waging an offensive war against Ukraine for more than 17 months, paid particular attention to drone technology.

“This direction is actively developing in the military and civil sphere,” said the Kremlin chief. It is about creating a new, independent, science-based and high-tech branch of the economy.

Russian economy in the doldrums
Russia repeatedly bombards Ukraine with cruise missiles, missiles and drones. Civilians are regularly killed and injured. At the same time, the Russian economy is in deep crisis due to the high costs of the war and international sanctions. Imports have become more expensive, while budget revenues from oil and gas exports have fallen.

A look at the ruble exchange rate also shows the pressures the Russian economy is currently under; the Russian currency continues to fall. On Monday, the ruble stood at 100.7 against the dollar and 110.2 against the euro.
