Tragic accident in Großwilfersdorf (Styria): A 62-year-old collided with his bicycle against a curb and fell headfirst onto the pavement. Despite immediate first aid measures by passing motorists, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.
On Monday morning, a 62-year-old man from the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district sat on his racing bike in the Hainersdorf region. According to police, his front wheel hit a curb and he fell head over heels onto the sidewalk.
All help came too late
Passing motorists began to resuscitate the cyclist after alerting the rescue services on telephone instructions from the Red Cross. The arriving rescuers continued the resuscitation attempts, unfortunately in vain: the man succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.
According to police, he was wearing a crash helmet. Further investigations are being conducted into the course of the accident and the public prosecutor’s office has ordered a forensic autopsy of the body.
