After an amusement park accident that injured seven at a high-diving attraction at Europa-Park in Rust near the German city of Freiburg, the neighboring water attraction “Atlantica SuperSplash” is back on track.
“The boats are sailing again,” a spokeswoman for Germany’s largest amusement park said on Tuesday. The park is open as planned. The day before, a pool of water broke during an acrobat show. Jumping towers attached to it collapsed.
The water from the basin flowed into the lake of “Atlantica SuperSplash”, parts of the landscape floated in the water, the boats stood still for the time being. According to the police, five artists and two visitors were injured in the incident. Three acrobats have been taken to hospital to have their injuries checked. Park and police spokeswomen were initially unable to say how they were doing on Tuesday.
In the evening, the police also announced that the background of the accident has yet to be determined.
The show has been canceled until further notice
The show “Retorno dos Piratas” is canceled until further notice. There, athletes jumped from a height of up to 25 meters into a 3.20 meter deep water basin. Ten international athletes showed their skills in extreme and synchronized jumps several times a day during the 20-minute show. “Retorno dos Piratas” began at the end of May and would thrill audiences until September 3. According to the spokeswoman, the park has been working with the artists for years.
Europa-Park is open daily during the summer season. Last year, more than six million people came to the facility with roller coasters and other rides near the French border.
