Two American tourists secretly spent the night atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The two would have entered the monument late Sunday evening with a ticket, broadcaster France Info reported on Tuesday, referring to detectives.
Later they would have gone to a room between the second and third floors that is not actually accessible to visitors. Security personnel found the two sleeping there on Monday before the Eiffel Tower opened. Rescue workers from the fire department brought the tourists to safety.
Tourists were drunk
According to investigators from the Paris public prosecutor’s office, the American tourists were drunk, the broadcaster reports. Since no damage was found, investigations “due to intrusion into a historical or cultural site” were stopped without sanctions.
However, the operator of the Eiffel Tower wanted to sue the men, because the landmark could only open with an hour delay due to the recovery of the two Mondays, broadcaster BFMTV reports. Only on Saturday did the Eiffel Tower have to be evacuated because of a bomb threat that turned out to be a false alarm.
