About 250 day trippers had to be picked up at Berg in Tannheim in Tyrol on Thursday afternoon. The reason for the evacuation: There was a blackout on the gondola. The power outage was caused by excavation work at the mountain railway.
As the police said in the evening, the power outage occurred around 2:45 p.m. There was excavation work on Vilsalpseestraße in Tannheim. It happened: an excavator – driven by a 63-year-old – damaged the main power cable of the mountain railways. This caused the power to go out.
Gondolas brought to the station in emergency mode
The gondola was then switched to emergency operation. About 150 passengers currently in the gondolas were safely taken to the station. Subsequently, however, it was necessary to get some 250 people off the mountain because the cable car was initially paralyzed.
The guests were taken down to the valley in vehicles from the Tannheim and Nesselwängle mountain rescue services and the Tannheim and Grän fire brigades. No one was injured. The evacuation was completed around 5 p.m.
