The weather forecast for the coming days is worrying the Austrian authorities. Sweltering heat is expected across the country. In Tyrol, a warning has already been issued in consultation with GeoSphere Austria. Until Wednesday it should be well above 30 degrees in several regions. In Innsbruck even 36 degrees is expected.
Where in many places the end of summer was feared after the devastating storms of recent weeks, it is now suddenly back – and with sweaty temperatures.
Already on Saturday morning, residual clouds or flat patches of fog will clear quickly in some regions, after which the sun will shine brightly. Only in the southeast and in the mountains isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible from the afternoon – but mostly it will remain dry. Temperatures of 26 to 34 degrees are coming to Austria.
Not a drop of rain on Sunday
Sunshine is still on the agenda for Sunday. According to meteorologists, there will be no rain showers or thunderstorms – it will remain dry throughout the country. Temperatures up to 35 degrees are waiting for us.
The following week will start with similar weather conditions: temperatures will also remain well above 30 degrees on Monday. The heat wave will probably hit Tyrol the hardest, where a whopping 35 degrees are expected. There should be no rain or thunderstorms.
Temperatures remain above 30 degrees
It will also remain cloudy on Tuesday. The high pressure influence continues to determine the weather throughout the country. Cumulus clouds in the mountains usually remain flat and harmless, individual overclouds with subsequent thunderstorms are most likely from the Zillertaler to the Gurktaler Alps. The daily maximum temperatures are 29 to 35 degrees.
Follow the recommendations and heat tips
Considering the exuberant summer temperatures, caution is also advised: Sweaty values above 30 degrees can lead to serious health problems. This also worries the authorities in Tyrol. The country therefore advises that recommendations and heat tips be observed. Because especially sick and weakened people are affected by the dangers. But the heat is also a special burden for small children and pensioners.
Heat protection plan activated in Carinthia
The alarm bells are also ringing in Carinthia: the huge heat wave is expected there from Saturday, the state announced on Friday. In the south, extreme temperatures are likely to last into Thursday. It can also become stuffy afterwards. That is why the federal state activated the warning level for the heat protection plan on Friday. “This means that recommendations and concrete behaviors and immediate action have been sent to more than 900 institutions – specifically retirement and nursing homes, hospitals, rescue organizations and childcare,” health official Beate Prettner informed.
Be careful when taking medicines
The health official also addresses all elderly people living at home: “Be especially careful if you need to take medicines. Because medicines can affect the body’s temperature and electrolyte balance.”
