It stays hot! After August started cold, rainy and with some catastrophic storms, the current third and longest heat wave of the summer is almost unstoppable. Mostly sunny throughout next week. Since the second third of the month, tropical air masses adorn the whole of Austria. But not only that – the midsummer, hot weather is also stable. And there is still some time: until Thursday, temperatures will largely remain above 30 degrees. According to experts, the chance of thunderstorms in the middle of the week could only increase slightly.
Week starts with temperatures up to 35 degrees
In any case, at the beginning of the week the sun often shines without clouds. In the extreme north of the Oberen Mühlviertel and Waldviertel up to the Weinviertel, the chance of thunderstorms is low. It remains warm throughout the country, with 29 to 35 degrees.
Continuous sunshine across the country
Tuesday also remains unchanged and offers plenty of sun. Cumulus clouds remain rare and mostly harmless. It is also hot at higher altitudes – the maximum values are between 30 and 35 degrees.
Midweek can get a little choppy
Wednesday will be more cloudy than the previous days. From the Innviertel to the north of Burgenland there will also be some showers from the morning. In the afternoon it is somewhat unstable and there will be thunderstorms. In general, only a few, but quite severe thunderstorms are to be expected. But don’t worry: the high temperatures remain high. 28 to 34 degrees are expected.
Wind gusts, hail and heavy rain are possible
Already in the morning on Thursday, the sun occasionally breaks through the country. In the eastern lowlands and in the southern basins, on the northern side of the Alps and generally in the mountains it will often be sunny, but the chance of rain and thunderstorms will soon increase again. Locally, gusts of wind, hail and large amounts of rain are expected. With 28 to 34 degrees it remains warm and extremely humid.
The heat wave should end by Sunday at the latest
According to the current status, Friday should also remain mostly sunny and warm. However, more frequent thunderstorms, some of them severe, should be expected in the west, eventually spreading further east over the weekend and also turning into sustained heavy rain in some areas. The heat in the southeast is likely to be over by Sunday at the latest.
