A moment of fright for a Bosnian on Saturday evening on the Inntalautobahn in the Tyrolean Oberland: After noticing the smell of fire in the Roppenertunnel, the driver stopped briefly in the tunnel and then drove on again. Shortly after the “tube”, flames suddenly erupted from the engine compartment.
Just before 9 p.m., the Bosnian, who lives in the Tyrolean district of Imst, drove his car on the Inntal Autobahn A12 towards Arlberg. While driving through the Roppener tunnel, he suddenly noticed a burning smell. “He then stopped in a niche to check his vehicle,” police said.
Quickly exit the tunnel after a short stop
Because of the persistent burning smell, the man drove quickly to at least get the car out of the tunnel. Outside, the Bosnian then stopped his car at the Imst exit. “By that time, flames were already coming out of the engine compartment,” the researchers continued.
The fire brigade was alerted and quickly extinguished the fire. The car may have been declared a total loss. Fortunately no one was injured.
