By pure chance, a mountain climber discovered a weakened man lying on the trail on Sunday evening. The shocking thing: the man had not traveled alone, he had actually set out with another man to the Steinernes Meer (Pinzgau). However, the “mountain companion” left the weakened hiker freezing alone.
“We were alerted around 10 p.m. on Sunday evening,” said Markus Reichholf, Saalfelden’s local office and operations manager. “A mountaineer discovered a weakened hiker on the access path to the house in Ingolstadt at an altitude of about 1950 meters. The German was on the climb and could not continue.”
I have to manage on my own
The two Germans from Lower Bavaria rode together to Weißbach/Lofer on Sunday and set off from there towards Ingolstädter Haus (2119 m). On the way, the second German simply left his 64-year-old companion behind and continued alone. “He said he left his colleague behind and just said he had to manage on his own,” says Markus Reichholf, mountain rescue operations manager, puzzled by this behavior.
The mountain rescuers from Saalfelden, who had to leave late at night, transported the weakened 64-year-old down to the valley on a mountain stretcher. A total of 16 mountain rescuers were present all night.
