4.2 million euros, that’s how much the Kages 2021 had to pay for private security forces in Styrian hospitals. And rightly so: healthcare workers are repeatedly victims of massive attacks! 260 cases of violence have been documented, according to a question to the FPÖ.
During the Corona period, when patients and nursing staff were already on edge – keywords were a lack of staff and a large number of cases – the risk of aggression in Styrian hospitals continued to increase: nurses were severely insulted, doctors verbally abused. That is why the liberal health councilor Juliane Bogner-Strauß (ÖVP) asked about the “security situation in hospitals and care institutions” on the tooth.
Sexual assaults reported three times
And the response rate speaks volumes: last year, staff and patients complained about verbal and physical assault 260 times – three times even sexual assaults were reported! The number of thefts also increased: 90 cases were registered. The police had to leave 55 times, of which 16 times with an escalation of violence in an ambulance. Sad reasons for emergency calls: attacks and diatribes.
Of course it makes sense that Kages spends a lot of money on security – 4.2 million euros flowed to outside security companies. The cost of the security measures installed in the facilities amounted to EUR 388,000.
It is also interesting that the Covid tests in the Kages houses cost 21.8 million euros, and the cost of protective equipment for the employees ten million euros.
“It is the task of Styrian politics that hospital employees find a safe working environment where they can do their important work untouched by aggressors,” emphasizes FPÖ club leader Mario Kunasek.
