Incident in the US: child attacked by bear while playing in the garden

Date:

A bear attacked a child playing in a yard in upstate New York. Even when rescuers arrived on the scene, the animal did not run away and posed a danger to them – the black bear was subsequently shot by police.

The incident happened Tuesday a few miles north of the US East Coast metropolis of New York City in North Castle, local police chief Peter Simonsen said.

The boy’s injuries are not life-threatening
The boy’s parents would have brought him to safety because of this. It was initially unclear how serious the injuries were. “As far as I know, the injuries are not life-threatening, but he is still being treated,” said Simonsen.

Bear remained in the garden and endangered the emergency services
The police called and approached the bear, who was still in the garden of the house. When he still did not back off, an officer shot the animal. There are about 8,000 black bears in New York state, but they mainly live in mountainous regions. They are rare in the densely populated areas north of metropolitan New York.
