A serious alpine accident occurred in the high mountains of the Tyrolean Sellraintal on Wednesday morning. A 34-year-old was traveling with comrades on the Rotgratferner in the community of St. Sigmund. A slip had fatal consequences for the mountaineer.
The 34-year-old was with two companions on the mountain trek. She should have been well rested, as described by the police. Despite crampons, the woman slipped on the heavily drenched Rotgratferner around 10:30 a.m. and fell.
Companions saw the crash and raised the alarm
Attempts to hold onto the ice with the pickaxe failed. The alpinist fell about a hundred meters over the glacier and was seriously injured at the end of the run. The companions had to watch the crash. They sounded the alarm.
Rescue workers rescued the fallen from the emergency helicopter and took them to hospital. According to the first information, the woman suffered, among other things, a broken ankle and abrasions all over her body.
