A dinner around the corner at Alsergrund was much more expensive than expected for a couple. The little Maltese dog Kessy is to blame for this.
Mr and Mrs L. will probably not soon forget their last trip to the old AKH. After treating themselves to dinner at a well-known restaurant, they were stopped by a police patrol on their way home. The facts: the little Maltese bitch Kessy (8). Although she was on a leash, the L. family was mercilessly reported: 300 fines!
What many people don’t know is that dogs are strictly prohibited on the entire property. The old AKH is a popular meeting place for many Viennese. In addition to university facilities, there are also a few restaurants, shops and offices.
‘We were treated like criminals’
Johann L. is furious: “We kindly asked for a warning, but were treated like criminals. The amount of the fine is unacceptable!” His wife Barbara is offended: “No restaurant owner has ever complained that we are not allowed to visit the restaurant with our Kessy. On the contrary, we have always been welcome”. According to the court rules of the University of Vienna, only companion dogs are exempt from the ban. Other pets are also prohibited.
Due to professional secrecy, MA 58 cannot provide information about ongoing administrative criminal proceedings. From the office of Alsergrund district leader Saya Ahmad (SPÖ), at the request of “Krone”, it says that in the Votivpark, in the immediate vicinity, there is a dog-running zone that was newly built last year. Other dog zones can be found in the Arne-Karlsson-Park, in the Lichtentaler Park and on the Karoline-Tintner-Promenade on the Danube Canal.
Just a small consolation for Mr. L. He has now appealed the sentence. Outcome uncertain.
