Several injured, broken vehicles, a wrecked tanker: the fire brigade practiced accident fighting on the highway under extremely realistic conditions.
Hardly a day goes by without a serious accident on domestic highways and highways. These rescue operations, which often last for hours, are a huge challenge for both the rescuers and the equipment. It is therefore all the more important to internalize the optimal process without it actually being a matter of life or death.
For this reason, several fire brigades from the Tulln district practiced an accident on the Stockerauer highway at Rübenplatz in Königsbrunn am Wagram. It was believed that there was a traffic accident involving several vehicles, which resulted in the closure of the S 5. An accident involved a truck and a subsequent car crashed into the trailer. A low-loader with a liquid tank skidded during an evasive maneuver and collided with another car. Several people were trapped.
Rescue lane, vehicle sound
The exercise was carried out very realistically. Private cars simulated a rescue lane and the sound of passing vehicles was simulated through a music system to make communication between the comrades more difficult, like in a real operation. The “wounded” were played by members of the Absdorf fire youth.
There were 57 members on duty, who, among other things, freed ‘stuck’ people, set up fire protection and took care of the leaking tank. Section fire chief Ernst Mantler was also satisfied with the process: “The cooperation and professionalism of our own fire brigades was really excellent.”
