Criticism of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Economic Affairs and Corruption, years of investigation, destruction of livelihoods: now the Green Justice Minister is commenting on the allegations. Alma Zadić talks to Conny Bischofberger about Sebastian Kurz, Heinz Christian Strache and Christoph Chorherr, Kickl as a “security risk” and their political and private future.
A homeless man was packing his sleeping bag in Vienna’s Volksgarten on Friday afternoon when the Minister of Justice arrived, accompanied by two Cobra agents and her press spokesman. She is wearing a floral dress and because it is scorching hot, she immediately takes off the light green jacket over it. We go for a walk in the shady avenue that smells of meadows. I ask Alma Zadić if she was also surprised about the ‘interrogation room’ during the ORF summer talks. “That is left to the ORF. As far as I’m concerned, I really like being outside, also during interviews. Especially when you consider that on average this will probably have been the coldest summer of our future lives.”
There is a moment of reflection before our summer conversation begins in the garden of the “Meierei”. The minister orders a jug of ice-cold lemon soda, which she occasionally drinks from a paper straw.
“crown”:Blet’s stay with the ORF summer talks for a moment. FPÖ chairman Herbert Kickl said it felt like a ‘Stasi interrogation room’. Can you understand that?
Alma Zadic: I haven’t been in this consulting room yet, so I don’t know how it feels to have to ask Werner Kogler. –laughs– Anyway, I like that we’re here.
