Good news from Kepler University Hospital in Linz: The two-year-old boy who fell into a swimming pool in Schleissheim on Thursday is on the mend. His father reacted correctly after the accident and immediately started resuscitation measures.
That was close! For a moment, two-year-old Levin was left unattended in the garden in Schleißheim because his father was taking care of his little brother (5). Just too long, because the little one fell into the parental swimming pool and went down silently. When the father noticed the disappearance, Levin was already floating at the bottom of the pool.
Go back to the normal ward
The 51-year-old immediately jumped in, pulled his lifeless son out of the water and began CPR. It was successful, because after about a minute the child regained consciousness and is now being treated at Kepler University Hospital in the normal ward.
How to respond correctly
This shows that acting quickly can save lives. Barbara Lauer, first aid officer at the Red Cross Upper Austria, knows how to react correctly in cases of drowning involving small children: “First call 144, then take five breaths and stretch your head slightly. If there is no response, continue with the rhythmic two breaths, thirty chest compressions – with one hand in the center of the chest.”
