President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy increases arms production in his country to the maximum level. He wants to call on artillery weapons and ammunition, but also drones, missiles and armored vehicles.
“We are increasing the production volume to a maximum. Ukraine can do that, the financing is in place. Our defense industry will deliver good results,” Zelenskyj said confidently in his nightly video message on Monday.
Ukrainian leaders had repeatedly spoken of making the country one of the largest arms producers. According to Zelenskyy, he has already had meetings with representatives of the defense industry about this.
A slow counteroffensive
The Ukrainian counter-offensive, aimed at liberating the territories occupied by Russia, has been going on for weeks. For this, Kiev needs huge amounts of ammunition and weapons. The war-torn country needs help from its Western allies and hopes for the early delivery of F-16 fighter jets announced by the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway.
